Rewire

Tik doesn’t make you “cool” — it steals your control; but you can start rewiring today and take your life back.

“REWIRE” is a story with a purpose: to tell a hard truth clearly, but with a hand reaching out. It isn’t written to shock for views — it’s written to help people survive tomorrow.

I wrote it because tik (and the wider meth culture often disguised as “SMOKE”) isn’t just a “bad choice.” It’s a brain hijack. That’s why smart, good kids can suddenly act like strangers to themselves. That’s why cravings feel like emergencies. That’s why people keep using even when they hate what it’s doing to their lives. And that’s why school, sport, work, and relationships start slipping — the parts of the brain responsible for focus, judgement, and self-control get overloaded and damaged.

The sound had to speak teen language: fast, honest, rhythmic — with a hook that repeats like an alarm: “It steals control.” I wanted the chorus to feel like a warning that won’t leave your head, because many young people only realize too late that control is already gone. The repetition matters: cravings repeat; anxiety repeats; the truth has to repeat louder and longer than the urge.

But the second big choice was to make hope just as strong as the warning. Many anti-drug messages sound like shame, and shame makes people hide. “REWIRE” does the opposite: it says, “You’re not alone.” It says asking for help isn’t weakness — it’s solid. It makes the first step small enough to do: send a voice note, make the call, talk to a friend, go to a clinic. One step. Just one. That’s enough to begin.

“REWIRE” is for the teen who feels trapped and ashamed, for the friend who doesn’t know what to say, and for the parent who just wants their child back. Yes — it steals control. But help is real, and you can come back, Today.

Reflection

“REWIRE” stands on the biblical truth that change is possible. Romans 12:2 speaks of being transformed by the renewing of the mind — a new pattern of thinking and living. Psalm 34 says the Lord is near to the brokenhearted; you don’t have to be “sorted out” before you come to Him. Isaiah 41:10 brings courage: do not fear, for I am with you; I will strengthen and help you. The hope is simple: you are not alone, and your mind and your life can be restored.

Lyrics

Intro / Spoken

Aye, aya—real talk. Jy’s nie alleen nie
Piano bounce, 100%. Let’s go
As jy vas voel—hou vas, ons trek jou deur
“REWIRE”—vat terug beheer

Chorus

Dit steel beheer, dit steel beheer (yah)
Daai ding maak jou nie cool nie—dit steel beheer (neh)
Stop, kyk hier—asem in, staan weer (hey)
Kry hulp vandag—vat terug jou beheer (skrr)
Dit steel beheer, dit steel beheer (yah)
Dis nie “vibes” nie—dis trouble, my dear (yeah)
Bel ‘n maat nou—praat, moenie seer (hey)
Kry hulp vandag—vat terug jou beheer

Verse 1

Skool, werk, sport—alles voel soos ‘n mess

Chorus (repeat)

Dit steel beheer, dit steel beheer…
Kry hulp vandag—vat terug jou beheer

Chant / Affirmation (breakdown)

Ek kies my lewe (ek kies my lewe)
Ek vra vir hulp (ek vra vir hulp)
Een dag op ‘n slag (een dag op ‘n slag)
Vat terug beheer (vat terug beheer)

Verse 2

Nou ek move anders—klein wins elke dag
Ek cut daai link, ek switch my lane, ek trap my pad
Ek check my mense, ek bou my crew
As dit heavy raak—ek praat, ek hou dit true
Fokus kom terug, ek sit goals in my phone
Ek’s nie daai ding se storie nie—dis my own tone
Hou vas, jy’s worth it, dis nie te laat hier
Kry hulp vandag—vat terug jou beheer

Final Chorus / Outro

Dit steel beheer, dit steel beheer…
Jy’s nie alleen nie—ons het jou, hoor
“REWIRE”—vat terug jou beheer
